The youths under the national youth council have today launched a peace campaign dubbed, Vote not violence campaign as the country goes to the polls on 14th January 2021.
Addressing a news conference today in Kampala, the national chairperson of the youth council, Jacob Eyeru states that they will utilize their structure across the country to have the campaign moved down to the youths in the country.
Eyeru further states that the current tension in the country threatens the peace and unity of the country hence the need to move fast to the youth who are vulnerable and ask them not to be used to perform acts of violence.
The youth further demand that the security organs desist from brutalizing voters and the electoral commission to hold a completely free and fair election to help avert the likely chance of having violence.
During the November 18-19 2020 demonstrations after the arrest of NUP presidential flag bearer Hon. Kyagulanyi Sentamu Robert in Luuka and detained in Nalufenya, youths were the large composition of people involved in the demonstrations which claimed over 54 lives and seriously injuring hundreds around the country.
