Parliament has approved a supplementary budget of over 3.7 trillion shillings requested by the Government amid resistance from some mps not to approve extra money for emyoga project, money for construction of roads in DRC and extra money for face masks.
The mps said that the Government had earlier allocated 220 billion shillings of Emyoga initiative for the entire country and the Government should not take parliament for a ride by allocating extra 50 billion shillings for specifically Kampala and wakiso.
Out of the approved money, 50 billion will go to the ministry of health for COVID19 Intervention, 220 billion to the ministry of works for construction and maintenance of roads in the DRC , 250 billion shillings for state house as classified expenditure, 15 billion for electoral commission to support the biometric voter verification system among others.
The chairperson of the budget committee Amos Lugolobi however says that the government has already spent part of the money but it has to seek approval from parliament within three months as required by the law .
