The minister for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda reveals that they have now resorted to using digital platforms to attract tourists to Uganda’s tourism destination as a way of rejuvenating that sector.
The tourism sector is among the hard hit sectors of the economy as a result of the pandemic and this can be witnessed in the cancellation of bookings by foreign tourists which has seen the sector lose huge revenue and income.
According to the minister, among the digital platforms being used include, twitter, facebook, instagram, as well as mainstream media targeting mainly local tourists.
Kiwanda is hopeful that this will later see foreign tourists flying into the country for visits.
And the opportunity that the MAMA awards is presenting to the country next year, the tourism sector will also boom, as a good number of artists will be coming into the country which will now give another marvelous opportunity to the pearl of Africa to be showcased to the rest of the world which seems to have forgotten the beauty due to the pandemic.
He urges Ugandans to use this time when the prices have been greatly slashed to visit the game parks during the festive season.
Kiwanda states that the sector fetched UGX.47 billion in the first quarter of 2019 against UGX.1.5Bn in the second last quarter of this year.
