Cabinet has approved the recommendation for Semi-candidate classes including P6, S3, and S5 to report back to school and study along with the Candidate classes.
According to the recommendations education institutions will be allowed to open for the non candidate classes in a staggered manner and will study in shifts while ensuring compliance with COVID19 10 Sops.
Under this plan pre primary schools will not be reopened since learners in this category cannot observe the SOPs and are prone to respiratory infections.
The plan also includes the leadership of ministry of education and sports and that of health undertaking a countrywide tour of schools and institutions to ascertain their preparedness to open for non candidate classes.
The communication and media relations manager at the Uganda media center Denis Katungi issued the cabinet statement to journalists.
Universities will also reopen in a staggered manner in compliance with SOPs
Prior to this the ministry of education, that of health and other key ministries will carry out a massive awareness campaign to enable parents and learners prepare for reopening
The ministry of health will also constitute a team of doctors to visit schools affected by COVID19 and an absenteeism monitoring plan will be developed to track attendance of learners, teachers and non teaching staff.
