Police in Mengo has blocked the campaign and office launch of mayoral hopeful Joseph Mayanja.
The offices located along Balintuma road in Namirembe are to be used as campaign strategies center for Mayanja.
Speaking to Lubowa Henry the campaign director for Joseph Mayanja, he accused police of acting out of order to block their meeting.
Lubowa added that, “ its very sad to see that government through police and other institutions have commercialized COVID 19” by asking for money to issue them a certificate of clearance to hold their meeting.
This is very sad for a country like uganda where the opposition is asked to pay to hold a meeting yet the NRM holds meetings without observing the SOPs. Says Lubowa.

A few minutes Lubega Mukaku came and accessed the premises as well as the mayoral hopeful Joseph Mayanja.
They were not given a chance to address the press as police started firing tear gas inside the premises where they had planned to launch their campaign strategy and offices.
The situation got tough as boda boda riders increased in number along Balintuma road holding processions.
This saw the neighbors in heal more tear gas as canisters were flying all over the place.
Mayanja and team vow to hold their planned launch any time without seeinking police permission.
