NRM has closed its nomination exercise for the party Members who are going to vie for various political positions in the forthcoming general elections.
The chairperson NRM electoral commission Dr. Tanga Odoi says out of the 2336 aspiring candidates who picked nomination forms 2260 candidates have returned the nomination forms to vie for various positions on the NRM party ticket.
He says about three candidates had issues with their documents and therefore they were not nominated .
He says every constituancy across the country has been represented, and asked the aspiring candidates to wait for the commission when it will announce the future dates for elections .
He says, the primary elections for the Mps will take place on 10th September 2020.
Tanga notes that no party candidate will be allowed to engage in illegal acts during campaigns with any candidate caught violating the regulations will face the laws of the game.
On the issue of hotspots among them Sembabule, Tororo, Wakiso among others, the commission is planning to hold talks with all candidates to fight an amicable solution to the cause of violence in the areas. “ Netx week we shall hold our first meeting with a team from Sembabule “ this is to iron out issue that may result into chaos in the coming electoral cycle. Says Dr.Tanga Odoi.
In the past few weeks, the party has been holding nominations for aspirants at parliamentary, local council and presidential levels. This has drawn thousands of interested party members to its electoral commission with the exercise seeing a number of bounce back from the old members and new comers.
