Findings by the National Drug Authority (NDA) have shown that a number of pharmaceutical outlets are operating illegally.
According to the study which was carried out during the last FY across the country, over 600 facilities including pharmacies and drug shops were closed for lack of minimum standards such as operating without licenses, while the medicine worth UGX. 300 million was impounded.
The NDA’s head of regions Dr.James Tamale noted in the news conference at UJA offices in Kawempe that such acts were compromising the health standards, which they can not allow.
Dr.Tamale also confirmed that operations against local herbal medicines that fall short of minimum standards were underway as this will help save the public from consuming dangerous medicines.
Tamale notes that the cost of repairing a damaged health citizen is very high thus the need to have only certified medicines on the market.
