Health experts have given out mixed reactions on Uganda’s capacity to manufacture covid19 vaccine.
President Yoweri Museveni last evening while broadcasting the Coronavirus vaccine national address said that Uganda can develop its own Covid-19 vaccine and treatment.
Professor Fred Ssengooba, the Associate Professor of Health Policy for the School of Public Health at Makerere University says that Uganda’s capacity to produce own vaccine is an aspiration since the exercise requires a lot of interventions which haven’t been put in place yet.
However, Prof. Henry Kajumbula, the Head of Microbiology Department at Makerere University and also a member of the National Covid-19 Taskforce believes that Uganda has the expertise or human resource to manufacture Uganda’s own vaccine though the time frame is limited.
Both health experts said so while inter fencing with science journalists during the Solutions Journalism training on Covid-19 in Kampala today.
