Every day on average Uganda receive approximately 20000 passport applicants ever since the Lockdown was lifted.
According to the permanent secretary ministry of internal affairs Dr. Benon Mutambi has explained what has caused the high demand for passport attributing to the covid19 outbreak that led to backlog adding that the passport offices is working at 30% capacity work rate to ensure that the ministry of Health Covid 19 standard operating procedures are maintained .
Dr. Benon further revealed how several interventions have been done to ensure there is service delivery in immigration department, and some of them include strengthening of electronic migration system ,the extension of Immigration offices at regional levels such that people don’t have to travel to Kampala for services.
In related development ,The immigration office has has warned conmen to deceased from carrying out their activities around their office premises that this has caused losses to many inform of extortion and Uganda Police will be working inline with internal affairs ministry to arrest the perpetrators.
The outbreak of corona virus left the country in a poor state, economically, that now people are desperate to have passports and travel abroad in search for green pastures .
