The Minister of State for Animal Industry Rwamirama Bright has handed over 63 milk handling facilities in form of 30 and 50 liter cans to Diary farmer Cooperatives in Teso Sub Region.
The milk storage facilities that were procured with support from Dairy Development Authority are meant to support farmers produce quality milk and also add value to their milk in order to compete favorably for better prices.
During the handover ceremony held t the North Eastern Regional Offices for Diary Development Authority in Soroti, Rwamirama cautioned dairy farmers to maintain the facilities properly and improve their livelihood and incomes by adding value to milk.
One of the beneficiaries, Odela Soroti women’s Dairy Cooperative which is adding value to milk and is making yoghurt, ghee, packed milk that they sell at affordable prices.
At the same event 18 milk collecting centers were also handed over to traders who were challenged to ensure they maintain good cattle breeds with the capacity to produce better milk quantities.
