The permanent secretary for the ministry of education Alex Kakooza has today released the new education calendar to be followed as school re-open for the new term.
On releasing the new calendar today in Kampala, the permanent secretary confirms that the new calendar indicates that the new term begins on 15th October and ends on 18th December 2020 with third term beginning on 11th January 2021 and closes on 30th April 2021.
Registration of candidates is slated for 22nd October to 20th November 2020 with UNEB exams to start on 26th February 2021 to 31st March 2021.
The ministry further insists that it will be carrying out routine covid19 testing for teachers and learners as a precautionary measure against the spread of the pandemic.
However, the ministry also asks school heads to erect fences around their school to bar un invited guests from accessing school premises.
However, the general secretary for UNEB, Prof. Daniel Odong reveals that registration of candidates for their final exams will only take five days since there is very limited time for a number of lined up activities.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ministry’s press conference in Kampala today, Odong confirms that by the time of the premature closure of first term on 18th March 2020 by the president, all schools had already collected the bio data for candidates since they were left with only two weeks to register.
According to UNEB, there should not be more time to waste rather than registering all candidates to provide better planning by the examination board.
The just released new learning calendar indicates that registration of PLE, UCE and UACE candidates kicks off on 22nd October to 20th November 2020 with writing of exams starting on 1st March 2021.
Schools were ordered to close on March 18th 2020 by the president which saw over eight million learners return home during the outbreak of the disease in Uganda.
