Acting Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo is appointed Chief Justice of Uganda while Justice Richard Buteera appointed his Deputy;Justice Dollo has been the head of the Court of Appeal and Constitutional court.
Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo who became DCJ after the retirement of Justice Steven Kavuma replaces retired Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, who retired in June/this year.
Meanwhile on 23rd/July/2020 Supreme court Justice Richard Buteera who was also eying the Chief Justice position was sworn in as newly appointed member of the Judicial service commission representing the Judiciary; and replacing Justice Jotham Tumwesigye who retired last year.
Before Justice Buteera joined the bench; as Court of Appeal Justice and later elevated to the Supreme court, he was Uganda’s Director of Public Prosecution.
Justice Dollo has been in the race for new Chief Justice with Justice Richard Buteera and Supreme court Justice Esther Kisakye.
In July/2018 at Mbale; the newly appointed Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo led a panel of Constitutional Court Justices, by a majority judgment, to uphold the amendment to the constitution that scrapped the presidential age limit from the Constitution.
