Kampala city Hall court issues criminal summons against independent presidential candidate Lt .Gen Henery Tumukunde who is currently on a campaign trail in Kagadi district .
Tumukunde’s lawyer Anthony Wameeli informed court that his client failed to make it to court today for the commencement of his trial on charges of unlawfull possession of firearms and ammunitions .
However the DPP has been ready with three police officers attached to the Criminal Invstigatition Department as witnesses in court to testify against Gen Tumukunde.
Tumukunde has however sent his wife and surity Stellah Tumukunde to explain to trial grade one magistrate Valerian Tumuhimbise her husband’s absentia.
But the magistrate has instead concurred with the DPP and issued summons requiring Gen Tumukunde to appear on the 21st/December 2020, the same day on which court will make a ruling regarding complainants about his human rights violations during arrest .
Gen Tumukunde is alleged to have illegally possessed an AK47, a pistol and 34 rounds of ammunitions at his office on Impala Avenue in Kololo without a valid firearm licence.
Tumukunde’s trial for the offence which landed him 2 months in jail had been fixed for today after the DPP and police wound up with their investigations upon which a decision to summon his son Amanya Nduhura Tumukunde as a witness was reached .
Lt. Gen Tumukunde is further said to have committed Treacherous acts by making statements through interviews conducted on Radio and TV stations that seek to promote hatred, violence, encouraging a neighboring country to support him to overthrow the current Government and instigating a mutiny within the armed forces.
He is said to have committed the two offences between 5th/ and 13 March, 2020.
Police says it’s still investigating the treason offence before Tumukunde is sent on trial in the Highcourt
