Government of Uganda has been dragged to high court for failure to regulate the rampant Exorbitant fees charged on covid19 patients in the Country.
According to Mulumba Moses one of the applicants in this case and also the Executive Director for Center For Health Human Rights and Development a civil society organization on issues of health has revealed that in this current Covid19 crisis its the vulnerable people who have suffered most due to the Exorbitant fees that are being charged against them to whenever they fall sick to the extent some people die of COVID19 without managing to pay costs.
The current survey of media reports reveals that a day in the intensive care unit ICU at a private hospital in Kampala cost between 2million to shillings 10 million per day.
He added that this blame is on the minister of Health, Attorney General and medical and Dental practitioners council who have failed to intervene and address the matter and they are responsible to comply with the suit to explain adding that the public health Act gives the ministry of health to regulate the Health charges especially when their is a National health crisis.
Activists have also noted that the outbreak of corona virus in this country has exposed Uganda’s Public health system that its very poor stressing that the Government’s priorities over the years have been elsewhere but not in the Health sector adding that its very unfair that the Government has been charging Ugandans money for COVID19 testing yet in other countries its free of charge.
