Villages along river Manafwa belt are heavily flooded following the heavy downpour in the districts of Mbale, Butaleja, Palisa.
The affected persons are fleeing for shelter in the raised upper villages.
The road that connects Butaleja to Mbale is cut off at both Lelesi and Nampologoma bridges.
Access to some communities remains a challenge since some roads are impassable making it hard for communities to access relief from voluntary agencies.
The assessment team is equally challenged and can’t access some areas but will proceed once the rain stops.
The rains which have continued pouring in the area have left hundreds in Mbale homeless following mud slides which have claimed lives and property.
According to authorities in the region, water from Mt.Elgon flows down stream in Butaleja district causing devastating effects in the area like floods which has created fear of a rise in water related diseases like, cholera, malaria ,diarrhea and wasting food still in the gardens.
