Following the massive escape of over 78 prison inmates from Moroto government prison in July this year, the prisons department confirms recovering 33 escapees with 12 were found dead.
According to the publicist of the prisons department, Frank Baine, two of these were recovered from Kampala with the help of sister security agencies and the clues from the communities.
Baine further notes that all the recovered escapees have now been taken back to the facility and will soon be arraigned in court to answer new charges of escape and causing destruction to government property.
The joint security operation carried out yesterday saw Abura Samuel one of the escapes arrested in Nadunget-Moroto and has been taken back to Moroto prisons
And in the wake to fight covid19 in prison, 239 inmates are still undergoing treatment in different treatment centers after 826 inmates contracted the pandemic.
So far 587 inmates have successfully recovered from the pandemic and the department continues to follow the set covid19 guidelines to see that workers and inmates don’t contract the disease.
Uganda currently has registered over 9000 covid19 cases with 90 death and over 6000 recoveries.
Now Ugandans are strongly being urged to continue observing the set covid19 guidelines to avert further spread of the disease which is now at the fourth stage, health workers consider very deadly.
