More than 2000 girls have been raped during the period of COVID19 Lock down of which 120 of them raped by their guardians,300 getting infected with HIV Aida while 120 of being raped by their Teachers.
According to the Government this is this is one of the biggest challenge the Country has experienced in this Lock down and largely attributed it to the Negligence of the parents and their guardians who have not fully fulfilled their mandate and responsibilities of Protecting their children as the minister in charge of youth and children’s affairs Sarah Mateke explains.
She gave these statistics basing on the 2020 Uganda Police Crime Report that was recent releases and approved Police for its reliance in ensuring that the perpetrators are apprehended much as some of them are not easy to be traced as she Urged police to continue search for the perpetrators and face the Law.
However, Mateke has revealed that Various Policies and Guidelines have been put in place basically to address these issues Concerning domestic violence and violence against children as also urged local leaders to be part of this campaign against the violation of girls in the Country.
